South Eastman Health/Santé Sud-Est owns and operates four hospitals. As designated by the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy, three are classed as small rural hospitals – Ste. Anne Hospital, Vita & District Health Centre and Centre médico-social DeSalaberry District Health Centre – while the fourth, Bethesda Hospital, is considered a major rural hospital.
Bethesda, Vita and DeSalaberry have attached personal care homes owned and operated by the RHA. Ste. Anne Hospital is located near Villa Youville, a contract personal care home with adjacent elderly persons housing.
Vita and DeSalaberry also serve as district health centres and include in their complexes doctors clinics, and community health services.
All hospitals in the region have emergency departments. You are reminded that the emergency department of a hospital is not intended to be used for long-standing or minor illnesses that can be treated in a doctor’s office. This would include such things as a cold or sore throat, earache, and requests to refill prescriptions.
Appropriate reasons for using an emergency department and its doctors include such things as: heart attack, sudden collapse, broken bones, serious sprains, cuts requiring stitches, burns, eye injuries, allergic reaction, breathing problems such as asthma, head injuries, severe abdominal pain and psychiatric crisis.
